Whats the story mineral makeup?

Hi all, wanted to give some tips on other ways to use your mineral makeup, including foundation AND eyeshadow/blusher.

You can mix a little of the powder foundation into your hand to make a concealer if you add a product like Clarins' Beauty flash (the reason i chose beauty flash is that it is safe to use in the eye area, you could just use the Beauty Flash for eyes if you wanted) All you need of the beauty flash is a pearl sized amount, you can apply it with your finger, or a concealer brush. Then set it with the mineral powder.
To make a creamy eyeshadow, do the same thing with beauty flash or a small amount of moisturizer (as long as its one you can use in eye area) then i would set it with a small amount of the mineral eyeshadow. This will make eyeshadow last forever.
Same technique for the blush.
If you had significant skin discoloration, i believe this technique would help cover any marks on the skin, including legs!
You could use beauty flash, eliz arden 18 hour cream, moisturizer, paw paw ointment, or lip gloss (would work well for using the blush mineral on the lips)
Just some little tips.
Please feel free to add yours for mineral makeup.
You can use your finger, a stippling "SKUNK" brush or a concealer brush.

Mineral makeup can be used by any skin type. However, in my opinion, you would like it better if you have a oilier skin type.
TO get it looking really flawless, you have to look after your skin. So i would recommend using an exfoliator if you are a bit dry to remove skin flakes, then moisturize. After a few minutes when your skin has absorbed the moisturizer, apply the mineral makeup. There are heaps of brands.
Remember if you chose a makeup without preservatives, it wont last as long as normal makeup. I guess you need to try a few different ones, to see what suits you the best. Also remember they tend to be a bit yellow based, so try a few shades to match your skin.

Dry Method (for everyday to heavy wear)
In order for mineral make-up to work the best you need to “warm it up” To do this put a small amount of the make-up in the lid of the container then use your brush (I recommend Kabuki or a thick synthetic brush.) You need to swirl it around and around so that the particles “warm”. Once you do this you can start to apply your make up. Light downward strokes work best, but do what feels comfortable to you. You need to repeat the swirling if you need more make-up. The swirling or “Warming” makes the make-up apply totally differently to if you don’t swirl. It also makes it longer wearing and gives better coverage

Water method (heavier wear)
Lightly dampen a make-up sponge (Make sure there is no excess water) Then dip into your mineral make-up (Put a small amount in the lid otherwise you will wreck or use too much) Apply in a dabbing motion keep going till make-up is smooth. I suggest using a tissue on your face afterward to get rid of any excess make-up or sponge marks. I just pat my face with a tissue for flawless look. (this method can apply quite heavily however you will find it will last all day or all night whatever the case may be.)

Moisturizer method (light coverage)
Mix with your favorite moisturizer for a fresh tinted look. Obviously the more foundation you use the heavier the coverage.

To freshen up your make up through the day pat face with tissue.

If you use a mineral makeup without preservatives, they need to be used up in about 3-6 months. Wash your applicators too.

Summer version of your favorite fragrance

Many of your favorite perfumes come in a summer version. They generally have less alcohol, and less oils, which are a little cloying in hot weather.
THis means you can be more liberal with your application, and not give your husband or co-workers a migraine. One of the top selling perfumes is YSL BABY DOLL. This version has an absolutely lovely shimmer too. It is currently available online at www.oztion.com.au at http://bit.ly/y4ZRX and comes with a free full sized Clarins pink eyeshadow too valued at $40. You get the whole set for less than $50. Retail is over $130. Just in time for Christmas

GLEE.OK so its not cosmetics related, but i love this show. Thanks to channel 10 for video!

Cosmeticsseller: Should you keep that old mascara?

Can i keep that 3 year old mascara...

Mascara
Shelf Life: Three-six months
Mascaras should always be used fairly quickly once they're opened because they're easily contaminated by the pumping action of the brush. This can force bacteria further into the container where the moist, wet environment is ideal for bacteria to thrive.

* Stick to one and use it regularly so you finish it within a few months. This is far better than alternating between a number of different mascaras, which means you keep them longer and increase the risk of contamination.
* Never add water or other liquid to mascara to keep it from drying out, as this can cause the preservative to become diluted and therefore offer less protection against germs.
* Never share mascara, as this is the most common way to pass on eye infections such as conjunctivitis.
* Don't use the same mascara if you've just had an eye infection, and buy a new one to minimize your chances of the infection coming back.
* Don't use saliva to moisten mascara. The bacteria from your mouth may get into the mascara, which can encourage bacteria to grow and cause infection.
* Always wash your hands before applying mascara to cut down the risk of passing on bacteria with your hands.
* Keep mascara in a clean place. Don't let it come into contact with dust or dirt that may harbor harmful bacteria.
I also recommend not pumping the wand in and out of the tube. It lets air into it, and it goes dry too quickly. SOme people I know say, well, use the old mascara on your brows, but I say...that why there are brow combs, the old mascara can flake into the eyes, and cause irritation and itchy skin.
Mascaras come in a whole range of price categories, so you cant blame price for keeping a mascara forever.

To throw or not to throw Natural Makeup

Theres a lot of talk here and there about how long you should keep your makeup items. Heres a rough guide to how long items last. Please note, products without preservatives need to be binned more quickly than products with preservatives.

For natural preservative Free makeup
Naturally the best?
You may need to be extra scrupulous about hygiene with so-called 'natural' or 'green' cosmetics. These tend to contain fewer preservatives and have earlier use-by dates that do, in fact, need to be stated by law on the label. If you continue to use this kind of product after the expiry date it's more susceptible to bacteria overgrowth, which can cause skin irritation. The ingredients in products with fewer preservatives break down more rapidly than other types of cosmetics, creating the perfect environment for bacteria to breed.
Of course this generally applies to makeup that has been opened.
If you use these types of products, always wash your hands before, and make sure all the tools you use are clean too.
I will make a post later on how i clean my makeup tools.

I dont think you're ready for this jelly

Oh gel eyeliner, where have you been hiding all my life?
Recently purchased online I didnt realize what a fabulous product it is.
Overcome your nerves ladies, its a really easy product to use, and doesn't drag on the eyelids.
First time i used it, it went on smoothly. Highly recommended!
As a follow up, i believe this item is a fakey fake fake. Apparently fluidline does NOT come in a square container, it comes in a round container.
They also do not come with a brush (this item came with a brush included)
MAC sell their brushes separately.
Guess I am bloody lucky not to have had an eye reaction.
